Mirzapur The Movie trailer is out. From Munna Bhaiyya’s return to Jeetendra Kumar replacing Vikrant Massey as Babloo, here are 5 takeaways.

Mirzapur is one of those shows that came quietly but made the loudest noise once it released. Released in 2018 with Seasons 2 and 3 dropping in 2020 and 2024 respectively, the series achieved a following and base that very few have managed to. It worked for many reasons- the shock factor, the Hindi hinterland politics factor and how insanely it kept the audiences hooked. The deaths were shocking but after a point even the audience braced for it.

And now, in 2026, the fans are bracing themselves for Mirzapur the film. Set to release in less than a month on September 4, the trailer was released on August 11 and if anything, it has kept the โ€˜bhaukaalโ€™ alive. Here are five biggest takeaways from the trailer that has piqued our interest. But before that, here’s the trailer

When is the film set?

The biggest question people had in their minds was when is Mirzapur the movie set. Well, it looks like it is not from the same timeline as the series. Here, the characters, who have met their ends, also make a return. So, you will have Mirzapurโ€™s prince Munna Bhaiyya back with a bang, with his signature dabangai, and seetimaar dialogues. Shriya Pilgaonkar will also be back, as will be Compounder Abhishek Banerjee.

The Babloo swap

Well, hardcore followers would know this by now, but this is to remind that Babloo Pandit is also alive in this film. Unfortunately for the audience though, Vikrant Massey is not returning to play the character. This time, Jeetu bhaiyya Jeetendra Kumar is stepping into the shoes of Babloo.

Kumar, no doubt, is an impeccable actor and looks good in the role. However, he has shouldered a massive responsibility. Massey gave the character an edge. He played it with the perfect balance of calm-headedness, intellect and swagger. In fact, his death was what shaped Mirzapur, and it was probably one that audience could not get over. To step into the shoes is a massive responsibility and comparisons are unavoidable. So, kudos to Kumar for being able to give his nod to it and if we go by the trailer, his chemistry with Ali Fazalโ€™s Guddu might have hit the right note.

Ravi Kishan follows my brotha

Ravi Kishan is one of the newest additions to the Mirzapur family, apart from Sushant Singh, Sonal Chauhan and Mohit Malik. And well, his casting couldnโ€™t have been more apt. He has got the swagger to be a part of the Mirzapur world, and looks effortless. His character will lock horns with Pankaj Tripathiโ€™s Kaleen Bhaiyya and the fight for the gaddi never looked more intense and interesting.

More Munna-Compounder bromance

Well, one thing that fans definitely hated was how Compounder met his fate. Munnaโ€™s loyal aide, one could not help but love him. Now that Mirzapur is back on a different timeline, Compounder is already back. The fine actor that he is, one can expect Banerjee to have deliver more fireworks and we canโ€™t wait to see his perfect bromance with Munna aka Divyenndu.

Whatโ€™s the scope for the lethal ladies?

Well, we know that the women of Mirzapur do call the shots. They had immense scope in the series that spun across seasons. However, with the scope being reduced with it being turned to a film, it remains to be seen what they would bring to the table. There wasnโ€™t much glimpse of them in the trailer, which can be a little disheartening for fans, but letโ€™s not judge the film before watching it.

Mirzapur: The Movie is all set to hit the theatres on September 4.
