T’gana forms SIT to probe irregularities in Hyderabad Cricket Association
The Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) has formed a Special Investigation Team to probe the irregularities and misappropriation of funds in the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA).
Four cases were registered in various police stations following complaints against the board members of the HCA who include HCA president A Jagan Mohan Rao, treasurer CJ Srinivas Rao and its Chief Executive Officer Sunil Kante alleging misappropriation and embezzlement of funds.
There are allegations of large-scale misappropriation of the funds provided by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), to the HCA in the past.
The SIT has been constituted following a directive from the High Court in April this year. The SIT officials said that the investigation was nearing completion and charge sheets in the four cases would be filed before the court soon.
The investigations have revealed that former HCA President A. Jagan Mohan Rao forged documents, such as altering the name of the Gowlipura Cricket Club to the Sri Chakra Cricket Club, to fraudulently establish eligibility for the HCA presidency. Furthermore, investigations indicated that 23 institutional votes were cast illegally to help him secure the election.
The HCA allegedly diverted and misused a massive portion of the Rs 200 crore in funds granted by the BCCI. Investigators found that millions were siphoned off using inflated or fake contracts, including fake procurements for cricket balls and electrical/plumbing works at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
