England bowler Chris Woakes has been ruled out of the final Test of the series after suffering a shoulder injury. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) made the announcement on Friday, August 1, ahead of the second day of play.
The injury occurred on Day 1 while Woakes was fielding at The Oval. He was attempting to stop a shot from batsman Karun Nair when he landed awkwardly, immediately clutching his shoulder. Woakes, who has bowled more deliveries than any other player in the series, did not return to the field.
The ECB stated that Woakes will be further assessed at the conclusion of the Test match.
