US demolish Paraguay 4-1 in opening 2026 FIFA World Cup game
The United States got off to a flying start in the 2026 FIFA World Cup after registering a thumping 4-1 victory against Paraguay in Los Angeles on Saturday. The hosts took the lead in the seventh minute of the game courtesy of an own goal, and the 1-0 lead remained intact until the end of the first half.
In front of a massive crowd of more than 70,000 supporters, including Hollywood stars Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio and Paris Hilton, who were in the stands cheering for the home side, the US continued their relentless attack on the South American opponents.
Reyna polished off the win with a late stoppage-time goal after Mauricio had pulled one back for Paraguay.
The win has positioned the United States at the top of the table.
The massive 4-1 score-line is likely to prove decisive in the coming days in Group D, which also includes Türkiye and Australia.
The United States looks fired up after registering this big win. Paraguay are also a decent side; however, today’s routing points only towards US resilience as they seek a knockout berth for the first time since 2002.
The first goal gave the US the momentum they were desperately hoping for going into the World Cup, and the own goal dented all hopes for the South American side, who struggled throughout the game.
Paraguay finally offered a threat when their dangerous forward Julio Enciso, who started despite a hamstring injury, picked up the ball on the edge of the area and fed in Brazil-born substitute Mauricio, who pulled one back.
