PBKS register season’s highest total, beat LSG

Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly struck blistering knocks of 93 and 87 to power Punjab Kings to a commanding 54-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants in an IPL match on Sunday.

The duo stitched together a match-defining 182-run partnership for the second wicket in just 13.2 overs, propelling PBKS to a massive 254/7, the highest total of the season, surpassing Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s 250/3.

Arya set the tone with an aggressive 93, while Connolly matched him stroke for stroke with a fluent 87, as the pair dismantled the LSG bowling attack with ease. Though LSG managed to remove both batters along with skipper Shreyas Iyer in quick succession, the damage had already been done.

Marcus Stoinis then added late impetus with a quickfire 29, ensuring Punjab crossed the 250-mark comfortably.

Chasing a daunting target, Lucknow Super Giants never quite kept pace with the required rate despite a few notable contributions. Skipper Rishabh Pant scored 43, while Mitchell Marsh (40) and Aiden Markram (42) offered resistance in the middle overs.

However, the lack of big partnerships hurt LSG as they finished at 200/5 in their 20 overs, falling well short of the target.

Punjab’s bowlers maintained control throughout the chase, ensuring the early onslaught with the bat translated into a comprehensive win.

The victory was built largely on the dominant Arya-Connolly partnership, which effectively took the game away from LSG and underlined Punjab Kings’ batting firepower in the tournament.

Brief score:

Punjab Kings: 254/7 (20 overs) – Arya 93, Connolly 87
Lucknow Super Giants: 200/5 (20 overs) – Pant 43, Marsh 40
