MI crush LSG by six wickets in high-scoring IPL clash

Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by six wickets in a high-scoring IPL match at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday night.ย The 228-run target turned out to be too little for the Mumbai batters, especially star Indian opener Rohit Sharma and South African left-handed batter Ryan Rickelton.

ย

Rohit Sharma led the charge with a quick-fire 84 off 44 balls, while his partner Rickelton smashed 83 off just 32 deliveries, giving MI a solid start up the order. The duo put on a 143-run opening stand that laid the foundation for the successful chase.

ย

MI overhauled LSGโ€™s 228/5 in just 18.4 overs, registering their third win in 10 matches to move to six points.

ย

Despite putting up a massive 228 on the board, LSG bowlers looked completely ineffective in front of Sharma and Rickelton.

Unable to defend the target, LSG stayed at the bottom of the points table with four points from nine games.

ย

Batting first, LSG batters finally showed their class with explosive West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran scoring a blistering 63 off 21 balls. Mitchell Marsh chipped in with 44 in a much-improved effort with the bat.

ย

However, Captain Rishabh Pant departed early with yet another disappointing outing, scoring just 15 before getting out.

ย

Another big gun, South African star Aiden Markram, scored 31 not out, while Himmat Singh remained unbeaten on 40 as LSG posted a competitive total, but it wasnโ€™t enough in the end against the strong MI batting display.
