Maa Behen gives a fresh take on mother-daughter relations. It is not one bit stereotypical when it comes to a mother’s relationship with her daughters, and it breaks all our notions about motherhood generally shown in cinema—‘Ma’—where mothers are typically put on a high pedestal. It’s far from it. The film is quirky, fun, immersive, and hugely entertaining.

Netflix’s Maa Behen is indeed a chaotic crime-comedy where lies spiral out of control, suspicions run wild, and the dysfunctional mother-daughter trio must somehow survive their biggest kaand (scandal). The best thing about OTT original films is that each and every film is out of the box and close to reality. Who says mothers cannot be vulnerable and have sexual urges? Not every woman that you see around us is the same, and just like that, not every mother is going to be the same…right? And who are we to judge who is a ‘good mother’ and who is a ‘bad mother’?

Not all mothers are perfect either; they have their dark sides too, and their characters can be layered. This film is not just funny; it is illuminating in a lot of ways as to why some women have the habit of doing wrong things always and not just landing herself into trouble but the others around her as well.

_Maa Behen_ movie is about the madness surrounding Rekha (Madhuri Dixit), Jaya (Triptii Dimri), and Sushma (Dharna Durga), who are already struggling to survive each other before the worst strikes_. The film_ will leave you in fits of laughter.

Each and every dialogue is well thought and immensely witty. Madhuri Dixit has simply slayed the role of a horny mother and a widow. Her character breaks every mould of motherhood, and the best thing about her is that she is unapologetic about her moves and her deeds.

The film starts with a tense call made by Rekha to her daughters in the middle of the night. Directed by Suresh Triveni, the story follows an extremely amorous mother who can’t keep her libido under control, Rekha (Madhuri Dixit), and her two estranged daughters, Jaya (Triptii Dimri) and Sushma (Dharna Durga), who team up to cover up a murder of a neighbour played by Ravi Kishan.

Netflix’s _Maa Behen_ shows emotional moments too. It is just one kaand, as they call it in Bihar, that will change the entire life of the three main actors in the film.  The best thing about the movie is these characters are so real, and you will feel that you have come across them in your real life, and Rekha, played by Madhuri Dixit, is hugely relatable. We have all seen and heard about these kinds of desirous aunties in the neighborhood, especially in small towns, who know how to entice men even in a casual way with that one look, a naughty wink, and a smile.

The relationship shown among two sisters, Jaya (Triptii Dimri) and Sushma (Dharna Durga), is also nothing extraordinary, but the way it is depicted is unique, and only filmmakers like Suresh Triveni can think that way. He has a way of entering and trying to understand what’s playing in the minds of women, and we have seen that in Jalsa, Tumhari Sulu, and most recently in Daldal. But humour definitely works best fr him.

Netflix’s Maa Behen is about a particular kaand committed by the mother brings the two sisters, Jaya (Triptii Dimri) and Sushma (Dharna Durga), together, who are constantly at loggerheads with each other. On the other hand, Rekha (Madhuri Dixit) is always up to some mischief, and she just can’t stop trying to lure other men, and the witch hunt against her is also very close to reality.

Netflix’s Maa Behen takes Madhuri Dixit to a role that she has never explored in her career before, and she deserves all the appreciation for that. And not just Madhuri; Triptii Dimri, Ravi Kishan, Arunoday Singh, and Dharna Durga gave their best, and that makes this film worth all appreciation and celebration. Fully utilising her digital comedy roots, Dharna Durga fits in perfectly into the frame of the chaotic life of Sushma, whose entire life depends on social media validation, which is typically seen among today’s youngsters. On the other hand, Triptii Dimri as Jaya is shown as the most sensible amongst the three family members and knows how to use her charm and intelligence in the right way, unlike her mother (Madhuri Dixit).

A still from Netflix’s ‘Maa Behen’

On the whole, this Netflix and Abundantia Entertainment film is worth every bit of your time. It is absolutely a hysterical entertainer. And Madhuri Dixit has nailed that ‘sleeveless blousewalli sexy bhabhi’ look. This film with our favourite Bollywood ‘Dhakdhak girl’ (Madhuri Dixit) as the lead makes us believe that comedy films need not be mindless. This time too she will make your heart run pitter-patter!
