If you’ve found yourself pausing Musafir Cafe just to admire the wooden cafe perched against misty mountains, fluttering prayer flags and sweeping valley views, you’re not alone. Ever since Vikrant Massey’s Netflix series premiered, viewers have been asking the same question-  Is Musafir Cafe a real place?

The answer is yes, sort of.

The cafe itself was specially created for the series, but it came to life inside Jharipani Castle, a heritage property tucked away in Mussoorie’s peaceful Jharipani neighbourhood. Better still, the property is open to visitors, meaning fans can experience many of the same terraces, gardens and mountain vistas featured in the show.

Where was Musafir Cafe filmed?

While Musafir Cafe moves between Bhopal and Mussoorie, its most memorable hill sequences were filmed at Jharipani Castle.

According to the property’s official blog, the production spent several days filming here in November 2025, transforming the boutique stay into a working Netflix set. The cast and crew stayed on-site, with scenes shot across the gardens, terraces, mountain-view rooms and the specially dressed café area.

Look closely and you’ll recognise the property’s wooden cottages, green tin roofs, bougainvillea-covered walls, staircases and valley-facing pathways throughout the series.

Having accommodation, dining and production facilities within one property also made filming easier for the crew.

By air: Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun, is about 50 km away (roughly a 90-minute drive).

By train: Dehradun Railway Station is approximately 25 km from the property.

By road: Jharipani Castle lies on the Dehradun-Mussoorie route via Barlowganj and offers direct road access with private parking.
