Kumkum, a young archer hitting bullโ€™s eye

Fresh from a mixed gold-medal triumph, Kumkum is rapidly emerging as one of the brightest young talents in Indian archery. Calm and composed beyond her years, the youngster from Amravati has already begun attracting attention with her performances, but she remains firmly focused on the road ahead rather than the achievements behind her.

Winning two gold medals in quick succession has given her confidence, but not complacency. For Kumkum, every success is a reminder that greater challenges lie ahead. The Asian Games and the Olympics are already on her radar, and she understands that reaching those targets will require even more dedication and hard work.

Like many sporting journeys, hers began with a simple nudge from home. It was her mother who first encouraged her to take up archery. What started as an activity soon turned into a passion. Within six months of picking up the bow, Kumkum had developed a deep interest in the sport, and there has been no looking back since.

Years of training have shaped her into one of the country’s most promising young archers. Interestingly, she does not dwell much on obstacles or setbacks. Instead, she prefers to focus on learning, improving and moving forward. That straightforward approach has become one of her biggest strengths.

While medals are important, Kumkum’s ambitions stretch far beyond podium finishes. She wants to contribute to Indian archery’s greatest dreamโ€”winning an Olympic medal. Despite producing several world-class archers and coming agonisingly close on multiple occasions, India is still waiting for its first Olympic medal in the sport. That unfinished chapter serves as a powerful source of motivation.

The dream of creating history for the country continues to inspire not only Kumkum but an entire generation of Indian archers. For the youngster from Amravati, the possibility of standing on an Olympic podium one day is a goal worth every sacrifice and every hour spent on the training field.

Behind her rise is a strong support system. Kumkum credits her coach as the biggest influence on her career. From technical guidance to competition preparation, her coach has played a vital role in shaping her development. She also acknowledges the unwavering support of her family, whose encouragement has remained constant throughout her journey.
