India’s premier left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav has signed with English county side Yorkshire for the remainder of the domestic season, marking his return to county cricket after several years. The experienced spinner, who has often found himself on the fringes of India’s playing XI despite being one of the country’s most accomplished white-ball bowlers, will feature in eight matches across two formats for the Headingley-based club.

Yorkshire County Cricket Club confirmed the signing on Wednesday, announcing that the 31-year-old will be available for five Metro Bank One-Day Cup fixtures before returning later in the season for three of the club’s final four Rothesay County Championship matches in September.

The club said Kuldeep would immediately join the squad and is in line to make his debut in Friday’s 50-over contest against Glamorgan at Neath. His inclusion is expected to significantly strengthen Yorkshire’s bowling attack as the team looks to improve its performances in both the limited-overs and first-class competitions.

In an official statement released on its website, Yorkshire said, “Yorkshire County Cricket Club is delighted to announce the overseas signing of Indian international spinner, Kuldeep Yadav. The 31-year-old will be available for five Metro Bank One Day Cup matches, before returning to Headingley for three of the final four Rothesay County Championship fixtures in September.”

Kuldeep brings with him a wealth of international experience, having represented India in all three formats of the game. Renowned for his deceptive variations, sharp turn and ability to outfox batters with his rare left-arm wrist-spin, he has been a key performer for India in white-ball cricket over the past decade. However, stiff competition within the Indian squad has limited his appearances in recent months, making the county stint an ideal opportunity to remain match-ready and gain valuable game time.

The move also offers Kuldeep another chance to test his skills in English conditions, where spinners are often required to adapt to varying pitches and weather.
