New Delhi: The trailer of Thalapathy Vijayโ€™s much-anticipated film Jana Nayagan has finally been unveiled, offering fans a powerful glimpse into what is set to be the actorโ€™s final cinematic outing. Ahead of the filmโ€™s theatrical release on January 9, 2026, the makers dropped the trailer on Saturday, building massive anticipation across the country.

Jana Nayagan holds special significance as it marks the end of Vijayโ€™s acting career, with the star choosing to shift his full focus to politics through his party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The trailer presents the pan-India star in a fierce and commanding avatar, portraying a fearless cop driven by revenge as he takes on Bobby Deolโ€™s menacing antagonist.

The trailer introduces Vijay in a larger-than-life role, hailed as the โ€œking of criminals,โ€ as he locks horns with gangs of goons and emerges undefeated, buoyed by the support of the common people. Despite his towering screen presence, his character repeatedly positions himself as an ordinary man guided by strong values and principles.

The plot takes an emotional turn when Vijayโ€™s character encourages Mamitha Baijuโ€™s role to join the armed forces. However, a brutal attack on her sets off a chain of events that pushes him into a relentless pursuit of justice. Bobby Deol leaves a strong impression as the antagonist, issuing a chilling ultimatum as he schemes to bring Vijay down within 30 days.

Pooja Hegde is seen in crucial moments throughout the action-packed trailer, adding emotional depth to the narrative. High on stylised action and layered with political undertones, the 2-minute and 52-second trailer ends on a rousing note, with Vijay declaring his return and teasing an explosive face-off.

About Jana Nayagan

Directed by H Vinoth and backed by Anirudh Ravichanderโ€™s powerful music, Jana Nayagan also stars Pooja Hegde, Priyamani, Mamitha Baiju, and Bobby Deol in pivotal roles. The film is slated for a grand theatrical release on January 9, 2026, just ahead of Makar Sankranti and Pongal.

During the filmโ€™s audio launch event in Malaysia, Vijay officially announced his decision to step away from cinema. โ€œWhen I entered films, I thought I was building a small sand house. But you all built me a palace. Fans helped me build a fort. Thatโ€™s why Iโ€™ve decided to stand for them. For the fans who gave up everything for me, Iโ€™m giving up cinema itself,โ€ he said.

In February last year, Vijay launched the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, announcing his intention to contest the 2026 elections. He later addressed his supporters at the partyโ€™s first major conference in October at Vikravandi, where he outlined his political vision and ideology.

Jana Nayagan will face stiff box-office competition, clashing with other major releases such as Prabhasโ€™ The Raja Saab and Sivakarthikeyanโ€™s Parasakthi, which is scheduled to hit theatres on January 10.
