The United States will close its consulate โin Pakistanโs Peshawar, citing the safety of its โ diplomats, the State Department said in a statement published โon Tuesday (May 5, 2026).
The U.S. embassy in Islamabad โwill handle โall โ diplomatic engagement with Khyber โ Pakhtunkhwa province, where Peshawar is the capital, the State Department said.
โThis decision โreflects our commitment to the safety of our diplomatic personnel and โefficient resource management,โ the statement said.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa borders Afghanistan, and has โ seen attacks and fierce fighting between Pakistan forces โand what Islamabad says are Afghan-backed militants.
