Anil Kapoor has played several alpha characters in his glorious film career and he is thrilled that Bollywood has finally made a fun, popcorn action entertainer like Alpha, that has put two girls, Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, at the centre of a genre like action that has so far only seen male heroes explore!
Anil Kapoor, whose character in _Alpha_ has so far been completely kept under wraps to protect important plot points, says, โFor the longest time, weโve looked at cinema through labelspoor, whose character in Alpha has so far been completely kept under wraps to protect important plot points, says, โFor the longest time, weโve looked at cinema through labels – male lead, female lead, hero, heroine. But audiences have evolved, and so has storytelling. What excites me about Alpha is that it challenges those old definitions.โ
He adds, โBeing an Alpha has never been about gender. Itโs about presence, conviction, courage, and the ability to drive a story forward. Thatโs what audiences connect with today – main character energy, not categories.โ
Anil is hopeful that Alpha will find its takers because people now want to see new experiences in theatres and Alpha will deliver that in spades with two girls headlining an action film!
He says, โAs a father, Iโve had the privilege of watching both my daughters champion stories and films that push boundaries and challenge conventions. Theyโve always believed in expanding whatโs possible for women on screen and I know theyโre rooting for Alpha because films like this have the power to open up an entirely new chapter for action cinema.โ
Anil adds, โI hope Alpha marks a larger shift in how we think about leadership and heroism on screen. Instead of asking whether a character is a male lead or a female lead, perhaps itโs time we simply ask: who is the Alpha? For Indian cinema, thatโs a powerful and necessary reimagining, and Iโm proud to be part of a film that embraces it.โ
He ends saying, โThe future of cinema isnโt about changing who gets to lead. Itโs about stopping the need to qualify leadership by gender in the first place.โ
