In a significant milestone for Indian surfing and the sport’s growing influence across the continent, Arun Vasu, president of the Surfing Federation of India (SFI), has been elected as the new president of the Asian Surfing Federation (ASF). The announcement was made on Friday following a voting process conducted among the ASF’s member National Federations under the supervision of the International Surfing Association (ISA).

Vasu’s election marks an important moment for Indian sports administration, with an Indian administrator now taking charge of the governing body responsible for promoting and developing surfing across Asia. His appointment is expected to strengthen the sport’s presence in emerging surfing nations while fostering greater cooperation among member federations.

The election process was carried out through a vote involving the ASF’s member National Federations. To ensure transparency and adherence to international governance standards, the proceedings were supervised by the International Surfing Association, the global governing body for the sport. A lifelong windsurfer and surfer, Vasu has been closely associated with the sport for decades. His passion for surfing has translated into administrative success since he assumed the presidency of the Surfing Federation of India in 2021.
