England’s successful ODI series against India has brought significant movement in the latest ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings, with veteran batter Joe Root returning to the top 10 for the first time in five years, while India captain Rohit Sharma has closed the gap on teammate Virat Kohli after a superb century.

Root, who played a pivotal role in England’s first bilateral ODI series victory over India since 2018, climbed four places to eighth in the batting rankings following a string of consistent performances. The experienced right-hander remained unbeaten in all three matches of the series, scoring 76, 99 and 74, underlining his class and importance to England’s middle order.

His impressive run has taken him back into the ICC’s top 10 ODI batters for the first time since 2020, marking a significant milestone in the latter stage of his illustrious international career.

Another England batter to make a notable jump is Ben Duckett, who surged 11 places to joint-19th after producing one of the finest innings of the series. Duckett’s magnificent 141 at Lord’s not only guided England to victory but also became the highest individual score ever recorded in a Men’s One-Day International at the iconic venue.

Despite India’s series defeat, several of their batters made gains in the latest rankings. Rohit Sharma’s outstanding knock of 138 at Lord’s helped him reduce the gap with Virat Kohli to just nine rating points. Rohit remains third in the ODI batting rankings, with Kohli holding fourth place.

India captain Shubman Gill continues to occupy second position and is now just one rating point behind New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell, who remains the world’s No. 1 ODI batter with 802 rating points. Gill’s consistent performances over the past year have kept him firmly in contention for the top ranking.
Middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer also made progress, climbing two places to 13th after his composed innings of 66 in the second ODI at Cardiff. His return to form has further strengthened India’s batting unit ahead of future international assignments.

The latest rankings also witnessed several changes among the bowlers. West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph and India’s Axar Patel both gained 10 places to move to 26th and 32nd respectively after their recent performances.

England all-rounder Sam Curran climbed 10 spots to 70th in the bowling rankings after his impressive spell of four wickets for 49 runs at Lord’s, a performance that played a crucial role in England’s series triumph.

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner was another major beneficiary in the updated rankings. The left-arm spinner moved from seventh to fourth after producing match-winning figures of two for 15 and two for 36 in the third and fourth ODIs against the West Indies.

West Indies spinner Gudakesh Motie also enjoyed a significant rise after claiming five wickets for 49 runs in the fourth ODI of the series. His outstanding spell lifted him seven places to joint-ninth among ODI bowlers, highlighting his growing reputation as one of the Caribbean side’s most dependable spin options.
New Zealand all-rounder Michael Bracewell continued his upward trajectory as well, climbing 14 places to 29th in the bowling rankings while also moving up to third in the ICC ODI all-rounders’ rankings after another productive series.

The ICC also released updated Men’s T20 International rankings, where Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan achieved a career-best 20th position after emerging as the leading run-scorer in his team’s 2-1 series victory over Zimbabwe.

Fellow Bangladesh batter Saif Hassan gained 10 places to move up to 27th following his innings of 55 in the second T20I. Zimbabwe’s Brian Bennett also reached a career-best ninth position after scoring 102 runs across the three-match series.

Among bowlers, Bangladesh duo Mahedi Hasan and Rishad Hossain registered notable improvements. Mahedi climbed four places to 19th, while leg-spinner Rishad advanced eight positions to 25th following their consistent performances against Zimbabwe. 

Zimbabwe left-arm pacer Richard Ngarava was another big mover, rising from 69th to a career-best 32nd after finishing the series with eight wickets. The latest ICC rankings reflect the impact of recent bilateral series across formats, rewarding players who delivered consistent match-winning performances. With several major international tournaments and series scheduled in the coming months, the battle for the top spots in both ODI and T20I rankings is expected to become even more intense.
