England eliminate co-host Mexico to book QF clash against Norway

Ten-man England eliminated co-hosts Mexico after beating them 3-2 to book a spot in the quarter-finals in the ongoing FIFA World Cup on Monday.

England will now face Norway for the semi-final spot.

Two back-to-back goals by Jude Bellingham had put England in a commanding position before Julian Quinones gave Mexico a lifeline before half-time.

Englandโ€™s Jarell Quansah was shown a red card following a VAR review before Harry Kane dispatched a penalty to make a decisive impact on the game, taking England to the quarter-finals.

Shortly after, Team Mexico was awarded a controversial penalty by the referee after captain Kane was found guilty of a serious foul against Bryan Gutierrez in the area and the referee awarded the penalty after reviewing the pitch-side monitor.

Raul Jimenez then came up, took the penalty and hammered the ball into the English net.

Shortly after, England defended heroically to hold out for their first win against a World Cup host.

“It was a crazy game. We had to fight and we had to find something,โ€ England captain Kane told reporters after the game.
