Mumbai Indians lose to Chennai Super Kings by 8 wickets

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by eight wickets in a convincing manner on Saturday, becoming the first team in IPL history to beat MI twenty times. CSK outperformed Mumbai in all departments of the game.

ย

Both teams share the record of winning the IPL title five times each.

ย

Batting first, MI posted a modest 157 for 7 in 20 overs. CSK cruised to the target in 18.1 overs with Ruturaj Gaikwad remaining unbeaten on 67.

ย

Gaikwad and Kartik Sharma forged a match-winning, unbeaten 98-run partnership to seal victory for the men in yellow. Sharma scored a quick 54, hitting the winning four.

ย

The win helped five-time champions CSK move up to sixth place on the 10-team table.

ย

“It was about getting a good start, and then one of the batters had to go deep,” said Gaikwad. “Feels good to bat until the end. I wanted to make sure to take the team to the end if I got a start.

ย

“MI captain Hardik Pandya admitted, ‘Not the season we wanted. But they (CSK) played better, they bowled better, they fielded better, and they batted better.”

ย

For CSK, Noor Ahmad dismissed key MI batters Ryan Rickelton (37) and Tilak Varma (5), while medium-pacer Anshul Kamboj picked up 3 for 32.

ย

“Noor needed momentum, and on wickets like this, he comes into play,” Gaikwad said. “He’s made adjustments and is doing well.”
