Jannik Sinner defeated two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday to win his first Wimbledon title and reverse the result of their epic French Open final just five weeks ago.

The top-ranked Sinner’s victory gave him his fourth Grand Slam trophy overall, moving the 23-year-old Italian to within one major of the No. 2-ranked Alcaraz’s career total. The two young rivals are continuing to pull away from the rest of the men’s field with their fierce and frequent battles.

Sunday’s result also put an end to several streaks for Alcaraz, a 22-year-old Spaniard. Alcaraz had won their past five head-to-head matches, including that dramatic clash at Roland-Garros last month that lasted nearly five and a half hours.

Sinner led by two sets and held three match points in Paris but could not finish the job, as Alcaraz improved to 5-0 in Grand Slam finals.

This time on Centre Court, Sinner held his nerve in a match that featured superb shot-making and some unforced errors from both men.

The win ended Alcaraz’s career-best 24-match unbeaten run and snapped his 20-match winning streak at the All England Club, where he had claimed back-to-back Wimbledon crowns by defeating Novak Djokovic in both the 2023 and 2024 finals.

It was Sinner who last got the better of Alcaraz on these lawns before this final — back in the fourth round in 2022.

Iga Swiatek’s long-awaited Wimbledon breakthrough finally came on Saturday, July 12, as she captured the title at the All England Club with a ruthless win over Amanda Anisimova.

Anisimova, who had shocked World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals, was outclassed on Centre Court as Swiatek needed just 57 minutes to seal a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory.

The triumph marked Swiatek’s first Wimbledon crown, her maiden Grand Slam title on grass, and her first major since completing a hat-trick of French Open victories last year.

Remarkably, it was also the first time in the Open Era that a player has failed to win a single game in a Wimbledon singles final, whether men’s or women’s.

Swiatek wasted no time stamping her authority on the contest, taking an early 1-0 lead with a break of serve. She quickly surged to 40-0, and although Anisimova saved one break point with a crisp winner, Swiatek wrapped up the game clinically and then held serve with ease to underline her dominance.
