US President Donald Trump has announced a new trade deal with South Korea, setting tariffs at 15 per cent. The deal marks a continuation of Trump’s focus on trade policy and economic nationalism.

Trump said that the agreement was aimed at “levelling the playing field” and ensuring “fair treatment” for American industries.

“This deal benefits both countries. It’s strong, fair, and puts American workers first,” he said.

Taking to social media platform X, he said that we are very busy in the White House today working on trade deals,”

Trump wrote. “I have spoken to the leaders of many countries, all of whom want to make the United States ‘extremely happy. He stated that he would be meeting with a trade delegation from South Korea later in the day. 

Trump noted that South Korea currently faces a 25 per cent tariff but has proposed an offer to lower that rate. “I will be interested in hearing what that offer is,” he said.

He also confirmed that negotiations are ongoing. “We are talking to India. We are negotiating with them,” the US President said.

When would it be imposed on Indian goods?

Trump also added, “You’ll know at the end of this week.” His comments suggest an announcement could be made in the coming days, depending on the outcome of ongoing discussions.

Oil talks with Pakistan

He also announced the conclusion of a new deal with Pakistan, in which the United States will collaborate with Pakistan to develop its oil reserves.

“We are in the process of choosing the oil company that will lead this partnership,” he stated. In a light remark, he added, “Who knows, maybe they’ll be selling Oil to India some day!”
