US President Donald Trump has announced a new trade deal with South Korea, setting tariffs at 15 per cent. The deal marks a continuation of Trumpโ€™s focus on trade policy and economic nationalism.

Trump said that the agreement was aimed at โ€œlevelling the playing fieldโ€ and ensuring โ€œfair treatmentโ€ for American industries.

โ€œThis deal benefits both countries. Itโ€™s strong, fair, and puts American workers first,โ€ he said.

Taking to social media platform X, he said that we are very busy in the White House today working on trade deals,โ€

Trump wrote. โ€œI have spoken to the leaders of many countries, all of whom want to make the United States โ€˜extremely happy. He stated that he would be meeting with a trade delegation from South Korea later in the day.ย

Trump noted that South Korea currently faces a 25 per cent tariff but has proposed an offer to lower that rate. โ€œI will be interested in hearing what that offer is,โ€ he said.

He also confirmed that negotiations are ongoing. โ€œWe are talking to India. We are negotiating with them,โ€ the US President said.

When would it be imposed on Indian goods?

Trump also added, โ€œYouโ€™ll know at the end of this week.โ€ His comments suggest an announcement could be made in the coming days, depending on the outcome of ongoing discussions.

Oil talks with Pakistan

He also announced the conclusion of a new deal with Pakistan, in which the United States will collaborate with Pakistan to develop its oil reserves.

โ€œWe are in the process of choosing the oil company that will lead this partnership,โ€ he stated. In a light remark, he added, โ€œWho knows, maybe theyโ€™ll be selling Oil to India some day!โ€
