Tiny tot from MP is world’s youngest Rapid-rated player

At an age of just three years and seven months, Sarwagya Singh Kushwaha from Madhya Pradesh has created history by becoming the world’s youngest Rapid-rated chess player, entering the FIDE lists with an impressive rating of 1572. At an age when most children are just discovering the game, Sarwagya has already carved his name into global chess records.

Guided by his coach Akash Payasi (National Instructor) and coach Nitin Chourasia, the Secretary of the District Chess Association, Sagar, the young prodigy, follows a disciplined daily routine that has powered his rise to this extraordinary milestone.

Adding to Madhya Pradesh’s pride, Madhvendra Pratap Sharma has emerged as the Asian Under-12 Champion, showcasing remarkable focus, strategic depth and unwavering dedication. With his family’s strong support and a rigorous training schedule, Madhvendra is fast becoming one of the brightest young talents in Asian chess.

“Sarwagya’s achievement is a moment of immense pride for us,” said his father Siddharth Singh Kushwaha. “For our son to become the youngest chess player in the world to earn a FIDE rating is a big honour. We believe he has a brilliant future ahead in chess, and we hope to see him rise all the way to the Grandmaster title.”

Speaking about the remarkable milestone, his mother Neha said, “Every achievement of Sarwagya is a blessing for us. Whether our dreams for him come true will depend on his hard work and God’s grace.”

Chess in Madhya Pradesh continues to grow under the vision of International Master (IM) Akshat Kampariya, the state’s first IM. His mission to nurture young talent has not only improved access to competitive chess, but also inspired a new generation of record-breaking achievers like Sarwagya and Madhvendra.

With their historic achievements, these young champions are placing India firmly on the global chess map, proving that brilliance knows no age—only passion, discipline and an unshakeable will to excel.
