Suryakumar undergoes sports hernia surgery in Germany
Indiaโs T20 International captain Suryakumar Yadav was successfully operated upon in Munich, Germany for sports hernia in his lower right abdomen.

Taking to his social media handle, the 34-year-old batsman wrote, โLife Update: Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, Iโm already on the road to recovery. Canโt wait to be back.โ

In about two weeks, Suryakumar is likely to undergo rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. This was his third surgery in the past three years. He underwent ankle surgery in 2023 and was operated upon for sports hernia in 2024 as well. He had last represented India in the 50-over format in the 2023 World Cup final.

Prior to his surgery, Suryakumar was in great form for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025 and was named the Player of the Tournament. He had scored 717 runs, second behind Orange Cap winner Sai Sudharsan (759 runs) as Mumbai Indians succeeded in reaching the playoffs, where they were defeated by Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2. Subsequently, in the T20 Mumbai League, he led Triumph Knights Mumbai North East, scoring 122 runs in five innings.

Indiaโs next white-ball campaign involves a tour of Bangladesh in August, which will include three ODIs and as many T20Is. Suryakumar is expected to lead Indiaโs T20 side again in Chattogram on August 26.
