Indiaโ€™s sensational wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant reached the seventh position in the latest ICC batting rankings, the highest in his career so far, after he scored centuries in both innings in the first Test match against England at Headingley which concluded on Tuesday.

Indiaโ€™s Test captain Shubman Gill also went up five rungs to 20th in the rankings following his century in the first innings of the match. Pant has become only the second wicketkeeper after Zimbabweโ€™s Andy Flower to hit two hundreds in the same match. Pant struck 134 and 118 in the Leeds Test, which England eventually won by five wickets.

There was not much change in the rankings for Test bowlers. India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah maintained his place at the top of charts after yet another five-wicket haul in the Headingley Test. Ben Duckett, who was adjudged Player of the Match for his 62 and match-winning 149, jumped five places to eighth in the rankings. Duckettโ€™s teammates Ollie Pope (up three spots to 19th) and Jamie Smith (up eighth places to 27th) also made significant gains.

England veteran Joe Root continues to remain the No.1 ranked Test batsman, followed by his teammate Harry Brook. England skipper Ben Stokes gained three places to move up to fifth in the list for Test all-rounders on the back of his solid contributions with bat and ball in the first Test against India.

The drawn first Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh saw a host of Bangladeshi players make inroads in the latest batting rankings. Mushfiqur Rahim, following his innings of 163 in Galle, gained 11 spots to move to 28th rank, while teammate Najmul Hossain Shanto climbed up an astounding 21 places to go up to 29th rank after he scored two centuries in the same match.
