PM praises J&K cricket team for first Ranji title after 67 years
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team for winning its first-ever Ranji Trophy title after 67 years and expressed hope that the team would continue its winning streak and impress national selectors.

In his monthly radio broadcast โMann Ki Baatโ, PM Modi said March has been a month full of excitement and enthusiasm for cricket fans across the country.

He highlighted Indiaโs victory in the 2026 T20 World Cup against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium last month, while also lauding the grit and determination shown by the Jammu and Kashmir Ranji team against tournament favourites Karnataka.

โIt is most heartening to note that after a long wait of nearly seven decades, the team achieved its first Ranji Trophy title. This unprecedented success is the result of years of continuous efforts by the players,โ PM Modi said.

He specially mentioned the performance of young Kashmiri bowler Aaqib Nabi, who took 60 wickets in the Ranji Trophy, saying it is being talked about nationwide.

โThis victory has thrilled the players and coaching staff, as well as the people of Jammu and Kashmir,โ he added.

โThe people of Jammu and Kashmir have a tremendous passion for sports. I am glad that it is now becoming a hub for major sporting events,โ the Prime Minister said.
