India’s U19 women’s cricket team made history once again, securing their second consecutive ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup title with a commanding victory over South Africa.
The final, held at the Bayuemas Oval, saw the Indian side dominate their opponents with a nine-wicket win, reaffirming their dominance in the global arena.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined millions of Indians in celebrating the achievement, praising the young cricketers for their resilience and teamwork. In a post on X, he lauded their effort and expressed pride in their performance.
“Immensely proud of our Nari Shakti! Congratulations to the Indian team for emerging victorious in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025. This victory is the result of excellent teamwork as well as determination and grit. It will inspire several upcoming athletes. My best wishes to the team for their future endeavours,” he wrote.
The win also drew praise from ICC Chairman Jay Shah, who congratulated the Indian team and acknowledged the role of Malaysia in successfully hosting the tournament.
He emphasised the significance of the competition in advancing the women’s game worldwide.
“Congratulations to @BCCI on back-to-back @ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup titles. And kudos to all the participating teams who took part in this very successfully hosted tournament by @MalaysiaCricket – crucial to the global development of the women’s game,” Shah posted on X.
The final turned out to be a one-sided affair, with India excelling in all departments. After being put to field first, the Indian bowlers delivered a clinical performance, restricting South Africa to a modest total of 82 for 9 in 20 overs.
Gongadi Trisha led the attack, claiming three wickets for just 15 runs. Parunika Sisodia, Aayushi Shukla, and Vaishnavi Sharma also played their part, taking two wickets each and dismantling the South African batting lineup.
Chasing a low target, India’s batters made easy work of the run chase. Although G Kamalini was dismissed early, vice-captain Sanika Chalke anchored the innings with a composed 26, while Trisha continued her fine form, remaining unbeaten on 44 off 33 balls.
Her knock, which included eight boundaries, steered India to victory in just 11.2 overs, with 52 balls to spare.
Trisha’s outstanding contributions throughout the tournament earned her the Player of the Tournament award. She was instrumental in India’s campaign, scoring 309 runs and taking seven wickets, proving her all-round capabilities.
