India football head coach Manolo Marquez quit on Wednesday after arriving at a โ€œmutual agreementโ€ with the All Indian Football Federation (AIFF). The development follows a string of poor performances by the national team.

ย

The decision to relieve Marquez was taken at an AIFF Executive Committee meeting after he expressed his desire to step down a year before the expiry of his contract.

ย

โ€œThe AIFF and Manolo decided to mutually part ways without any financial implications to any of the two parties. So, he is relieved from being India coach. The AIFF will shortly advertise for the post of head coach,” said AIFF Deputy Secretary General K Satyanarayana.

ย

Marquez had been made head coach in June 2024 for a two-year tenure. India have won just one of their last eight matches under Marquez.
