Junior hockey team third in four-nation meet

The Indian junior menโs hockey team came third in a four-nation tournament by defeating Australia 2-1 in the decider here on Wednesday. Rohit (45′ equalised for India before Ajeet Yadav’s (52′) goal in the last quarter sealed the win for India. Earlier, captain Toby Mallon gave Australia the lead in the second half.

Neither side was able to score in the opening two quarters owing to the strong defence of both the teams. Australia was the first to score in the third quarter, but India responded with an equaliser just five minutes later.

In the pool stage of the tournament, India began their campaign with a 1-7 loss to hosts Germany, defeated Australia 3-1 and lost 1-5 to Spain.
