Israel is on high alert for โ€the possibility of any U.S. โ€‹intervention in Iran as โ€Œauthorities there confront the โ€‹biggest anti-government protests in years, according to three Israeli sources with knowledge of the matter.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to intervene โ€‹in recent days โ and warned Iranโ€™s rulers against using force against demonstrators. On Saturday (January 10, 2026), Mr. โ€‹Trump said โ the U.S. stands โ€œready to helpโ€.

The sources, who were present for Israeli security consultations over โ€Œthe weekend, did not โ€Œelaborate on what Israelโ€™s high-alert footing meant in โ€practice. Israel and Iran fought a 12-day war in โ€June.

In a phone call on Saturday (January 10, 2026), Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed the possibility of U.S. intervention in โ Iran, according to an Israeli source who was โ€‹present for the conversation. A โ U.S. official confirmed the two men spoke but did not say what topics they discussed.
