India bounce back in style to enter World Cup semis
A week ago, silence and shattered hopes filled the Indian dressing room in Visakhapatnam after their third straight defeat to South Africa. But on a glowing evening at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, the same team walked out radiant, not just with relief, but with pride. The Women in Blue had found their rhythm and confidence again, sealing a place in the semifinals of the ICC Womenโs World Cup 2025 with a spirited 53-run (DLS) win over New Zealand.

For skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, it was a night of redemption. The Indian captain, who had openly expressed disappointment after the losses in Vizag, stood tall and composed this time, her voice steady but brimming with emotion. โCredit goes to the entire team for the way we fought today,โ said Harmanpreet after the rain-interrupted match. โIn Vizag, we were down mentally and physically. But today, the girls showed incredible character. We were getting starts earlier but failed to convert; this time, Smriti and Pratika made sure we made it count.โ

Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawalโs centuries were the heartbeat of Indiaโs revival. Their partnership added flair and fire at the top, anchoring the innings and reigniting belief within the camp. Harmanpreetโs calm yet commanding leadership guided Indiaโs turnaround. โIt wasnโt easy after three defeats,โ she said. โBut everyone stood up. The way we lifted each other showed how united we were. Thatโs what makes this victory so special.โ

Across the pitch, New Zealandโs veteran skipper, playing her final World Cup, admitted frustration. โWeโre gutted. Itโs been a bloody frustrating tournament. But credit to India; they were clinical today,โ she said.

With six points and three wins, Indiaโs superior record secures them a semifinal berth. From despair to delight, Harmanpreetโs India have rediscovered their roar and their reason to dream again.
