ICC reprimands Pant for showing dissent at umpireโs decision
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reprimanded India vice-captain and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant for showing dissent at an umpireโs decision during the third day of play in the opening Test against England at Headingley. The ICC has also added one demerit point to Pantโs disciplinary record. It was his first offence in 24 months.

Reprimanded for his on-field conduct during Englandโs first innings, Pant was found to have breached Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. โHe was found to have breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to showing dissent at an umpireโs decision during an international match,โ the ICC said in a statement.
ย
The incident occurred in the 61st over of Englandโs innings when Harry Brook and Ben Stokes were at the crease. Pant was seen having a conversation with the umpires about the condition of the ball. When the umpires declined his request to change the ball after checking it with the ball gauge, Pant threw the ball on the ground in umpiresโ presence. No disciplinary hearing took place as Pant admitted to the offence beforehand and accepted the sanction suggested by ICC match referee Richie Richardson.
ย
On-field umpires Chris Gaffaney and Paul Reiffel, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Mike Burns had all brought the charges to the ICCโs notice. Level 1 breaches invite a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of the match fee and one or two demerit points.
