Gill under ICC scanner over dress code
India Test captain Shubman Gill has come under the scanner of the International Cricket Council (ICC) over violation of its dress code. Gill was found wearing black socks on the field against ICC rules, which stipulate that the colour should be white, cream or light grey for Test matches.
ย
The swashbuckling batsman could be fined 10 to 20 per cent of his match fee with a demerit point for the violation, depending on the interpretation of match referee Richie Richardson.
ย
The fines for Level 1 offence range from 0 to 50 per cent of the match fees, with possible demerit points. For Level 2 offence, a player might lose 50-100 per cent of the match fees. However, such extreme disciplinary action is rare in offences related to clothing. ย Clause 19.45 in the ICC rulebook relating to this dress code had come into effect in May 2023.
