CM flags off ice skating team for national event
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday flagged off a contingent of 60 players who will be participating in the National Ice Skating Championship, to be held in Dehradun from June 25 to June 28, from his official residence Oak Over.

The players will compete across seven age-wise categories.

The Chief Minister extended his best wishes to the participants and congratulated them on the occasion of International Olympic Day.ย Sukhu said the state government is committed to promoting sports and nurturing talent. He highlighted several schemes undertaken to support athletes, including a significant enhancement of prize money for medal winners at international competitions such as the Olympics, Paralympics, and Asian Games.

To encourage participation, the government has also increased diet allowances and improved travel facilities. Athletes now receive AC 3-tier train fares for journeys up to 200 kilometers and economy class airfares for longer distances.

โThese facilities aim to promote greater participation in sports and provide modern amenities that will help the younger generation stay away from drug abuse and embrace a healthier lifestyle through sports,โ the Chief Minister added.

President of the Himachal Pradesh Ice Skating Association (District Shimla), Ikashwaku Justa, and District Vice-President Yogesh Sihea were also present on the occasion.
