Australia bundle out WI for second lowest Test total
Australia dismissed hosts West Indies for 27 runs, the second lowest total in Test history, to win the third Test of the series at Kingston by 176 runs and wrap up the series 3-0 as Mitchell Starc took an astounding six wickets for nine runs and Scott Boland claimed a hat-trick.
ย
The West Indies total would have matched the lowest Test score ever had it not been for one run scored off a misfield. Chasing a 204-run target, they were reeling at 11-6 in the sixth over.
ย
Starc achieved the fastest five-wicket haul in Test history in just 15 balls. This was his 15th fifer in Tests. While the lanky left-arm pacer took a wicket off the very first ball of the West Indies’ second innings, he claimed three wickets in the over, a triple-wicket maiden.

It took Australia just 14.3 overs to wrap up the West Indies innings. With this, Australia have clinched the series with a 3-0 sweep to win the Frank Worrell Trophy. โIt has been a fantastic series. I think weโve seen some difficult batting conditions throughout,โ said Starc, who claimed his 400th Test wicket in his 100th Test.
ย
โItโs been a good few days, very enjoyable. Iโll go home with a smile on my face. We saw last night the conditions with the hard pink ball under lights. It’s pretty difficult. We didn’t think it would happen as quickly today until the sun went down a bit,โ he said.
ย
Australiaโs bowlers have dominated the series throughout. They won the first two Tests by 159 runs in Barbados, followed by a 133-run win in Grenada. While Starc missed a hat-trick after dismissing Kevlon Anderson and Brandon King with consecutive deliveries, Boland achieved his with the wickets of Justin Greaves, Shamar Joseph and Jomel Warrican. This was the 10th Test hat-trick by an Australian. Boland finished with three wickets for two runs.
ย
The previous lowest score of West Indies was 47 against England on the same ground in 2004. A misfield by Sam Konstas in the 14th over allowed the West Indies to take a single and reach 27 to avoid the ignominy of matching New Zealandโs 70-year-old record of 26 against England at Auckland in 1955.
ย
Earlier, Alzarri Joseph took 5-27 as the West Indies bowled out Australia for 121 in their second innings. Australia began Day 3 at 99-6, but could last only eight more overs. Cameron Green, who battled well on Day 2 to reach 42, was out on the very first ball of the day.
ย
In an outstanding display of pace bowling, Starc removed John Campbell by inducing an edge to the wicketkeeper off his first delivery of the innings that moved away sharply. Starc then removed Anderson lbw, bowled King and Mikyle Lewis for 4, leaving the West Indies four wickets down for five runs. His fifth wicket was Shai Hopeโs, trapped lbw on a faster ball that swung in to hit the back pad.

West Indies captain Roston Chase said it was a heartbreaking way to finish. He credited his bowlers for troubling the Australians, but said the batting line-up did not click.
