OpenAI has asked a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit from Elon Muskโs AI startup xAI, which claims that the company lured away its employees to steal trade secrets. OpenAI called the case part of Muskโs โongoing harassmentโ and denied all allegations as โfalse and unsubstantiated.โIn its court filing, OpenAI said, โUnder Muskโs leadership, talented xAI employees are leaving in droves, and some are coming to OpenAI to help advance OpenAIโs mission,โ Reuters reported citing the filing.โThose employees have every right to go where they choose, and OpenAI has the right to hire them.โThe lawsuit, filed last week in San Francisco federal court, accuses OpenAI of targeting former xAI staff to gain access to trade secrets tied to xAIโs AI chatbot Grok, which the company claims is more advanced than OpenAIโs ChatGPT.This legal battle is just one part of a broader clash between Musk and OpenAI, which he co-founded with CEO Sam Altman. The fight comes amid a fierce race in Silicon Valley to recruit top AI talent and capture market share in the growing AI sector.xAI has also filed a separate lawsuit against Apple, accusing the company of collaborating with OpenAI to suppress rival AI platforms. Both Apple and OpenAI have denied the claims and asked the court to dismiss the case, Reuters reported.Musk has additionally sued OpenAI over its transition to a for-profit structure, while OpenAI has countersued him for harassment.On Thursday, OpenAI said xAIโs trade-secret allegations were meant to pressure the company and divert attention from the shortcomings of [Muskโs] own AI projects.The AI giant further added, โThe truth is that xAI is hemorrhaging talent to other competitors, including OpenAI.โ
