Australia smash Pakistan by 113 runs

Australia continued its dominant run in the Women’s T20 World Cup with a comprehensive 113-run victory over Pakistan at Headingley, making it four wins from four matches in the group stage.

Despite remaining unbeaten, Australia has not yet secured a semifinal spot, as both South Africa and India can still finish with four wins. Australia will face India in its final group match at a sold-out Lord’s on Sunday. The Australians have never failed to reach the semifinals of the tournament.

Batting first, Australia recovered from losing Beth Mooney off the opening ball to post a formidable 199-7. Ellyse Perry starred with a brilliant 71 off 48 deliveries, while Georgia Voll contributed 39 in a rapid 100-run partnership. Useful cameos from Annabel Sutherland (27) and Nicola Carey (26) ensured Australia finished strongly.

Pakistan’s chase never gained momentum as they were bowled out for just 86 in the 14th over. Opener Muneeba Ali top-scored with 32, but three run-outs and regular wickets derailed the innings. Perry also impressed with the ball, taking 2-9, while Sophie Molineux and Sutherland claimed two wickets each.
Meanwhile, defending champions New Zealand and Sri Lanka kept their semifinal hopes alive with important victories in Bristol.

Sri Lanka thrashed Ireland by nine wickets thanks to a magnificent unbeaten 106 from captain Chamari Athapaththu. The veteran opener scored her first World Cup century and the fourth T20I hundred of her career, accounting for the majority of Sri Lanka’s successful chase of 135. Her knock came just days after she expressed disappointment with her own performances earlier in the tournament

Ireland posted a competitive total through captain Gaby Lewis, who scored 59, but Athapaththu’s attacking innings ensured a comfortable win with 27 balls to spare. New Zealand, meanwhile, defeated Scotland by six wickets. Chasing 132, the White Ferns recovered from a shaky start of 26-3 thanks to a match-winning 101-run partnership between Izzy Sharp and Brooke Halliday. Sharp struck a career-best 62 off 43 balls, while Halliday remained unbeaten on 41 as New Zealand reached the target with 10 balls remaining.

Earlier, Scotland had posted 131-7, led by Darcey Carter’s unbeaten 72. However, New Zealand bowlers pulled things back effectively, with captain Melie Kerr finishing with impressive figures of 3-17. The tournament continues on Wednesday with an eagerly anticipated clash between unbeaten sides England and West Indies.
