Most of us have watched Cocktail 1; the movie was fresh, but sadly that zing and charm are missing in Cocktail 2. But it’s not a complete disaster, as many may call it. Shahid Kapoor’s and Kriti Sanon’s performances were immersive. The misfit in this entire film was Rashmika Mandanna. She just didn’t fit into the role of Diya. That doesn’t again mean that I am going to write-off the entire movie. Despite all it’s drawbacks Shahid Kapoor shines in the film.
The striking thing about Cocktail 2 is the look of the film. At some point, you might feel that it’s like a travelogue on Sicily. The phenomenal landscape will make you plan for your next vacation in Sicily. It is a perfect movie for the big screen as it offers a brilliant cinematic experience.
It is not just a romantic film;
_Cocktail 2_ talks about relationships and friendships beneath the glamour and celebration. With music by Pritam and a soundtrack that has already become one of the film’s biggest talking points, the movie blends romance and rhythm into a full cinematic experience designed for the big screen. A little introduction to the characters: Kunal (Shahid Kapoor) plays a gorgeous Chef who knows how to impress his customers, Diya (Rashmika Mandana) is the love of his life and Ally (Kriti Sanon) is an old friend who the couple meets on a holiday to Sicily after ten long years.
Cocktail 2 is a not so perfect love triangle, but a contemporary film that you must try. Just like a typical Homi Adajania directorial film Cocktail 2 is served in style. But unlike other sequels, the story and even the characters are different; only the concept to some extent remains the same. The film follows Kunal (Shahid Kapoor) and Diya (Rashmika Mandanna), college sweethearts in a long-term relationship who are deeply in love but not yet married and are scared of commitment. As they go on a vacation to Sicily, they run into Ally (Kriti Sanon), Diya’s glamorous friend, who convinces them to scrap their itinerary and travel together. So, she gets to decide where the three of them should visit.
Cocktail 2 is a love drenched Italian holiday with glimpses of affluent beautiful Delhi homes and lavish parties which turns out to be messy. But why? For that I think you need to watch the film in theatres. Just a one-time watch, but keep your brains locked up in the cupboard.
Towards the end, the film features profound discussions about love and responsibility, emphasising that love does not require constant agreement. It’s about a habit and getting used to each other, including the bad habits, and coming back to each other despite all the differences. The movie makes you believe that despite all the differences, a long-term relationship can never be disrupted; it is indeed like an old and torn T-shirt which makes you feel comfortable and lets you sleep peacefully every night!
Rating: 2 and half (out of 5)
