Jharkhand’s Palak earns India U-19 Women’s call-up
In a proud moment for Jharkhand cricket, young cricketer Kumari Palak has been selected in the India Women’s Under-19 squad for the upcoming ODI and T20 series against Sri Lanka. With her selection, she becomes the first woman cricketer associated with the Ranchi District Cricket Association (RDCA) to earn a place in a national team.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squads for the IDFC First Bank Sri Lanka Women’s Under-19 tour of India, which will feature three T20 Internationals and three One-Day matches. Palak has secured a spot in both the T20 and ODI squads.
Originally from Deoghar district, Palak represents Ranchi in domestic cricket. According to RDCA Secretary Shailendra Kumar, she began her cricketing career at Ormanjhi Cricket Club under the guidance of coach Pankshit Kumar Mahto and continues to train with him.
Palak has been living in Ranchi for nearly 14 years and is currently a student at Ram Tahal Inter College, Ormanjhi. Her journey has been marked by determination and family support.
After the demise of her father, her mother, Sangeeta Bhagat, who serves at the Women’s Police Station, played a key role in encouraging her pursuit of cricket.
Her selection has been widely celebrated in Jharkhand’s cricketing circles, with players, coaches, and officials hailing the achievement as a landmark moment for women’s cricket in the state. The young cricketer is expected to play an important role as India takes on Sri Lanka in the upcoming youth series.
