GT clinch victory over RCB in low-scoring thriller at Ahmedabad

Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 4 wickets in a low-scoring IPL 2026 encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium here on Thursday evening.

ย

Jason Holder was the standout performer for GT, picking up crucial wickets and taking three catches in a fine all-round display.ย Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler then provided a blistering start with the bat to steer the hosts to a comfortable victory.

ย

RCB posted a modest 155 all out in 19.2 overs. In reply, GT chased down the target comfortably, reaching 158 for 6 in just 15.5 overs.ย Shubman Gill played an uncharacteristically aggressive knock of 43 off just 18 balls (4 fours, 3 sixes), while Jos Buttler contributed a quick 39 off 19 deliveries.

ย

Rahul Tewatia remained not out on 27 off 17 balls to seal the win.

ย

The chase got off to a flying start after the early dismissal of Sai Sudharsan.

ย

Gill and Buttler tore into the RCB bowling, with Gill particularly punishing Josh Hazlewood, smashing him for three fours and two sixes in a single over.

ย

Despite the heavy scoring rate, Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up 3 wickets for 28 runs and reached a personal milestone, becoming only the second Indian bowler after Yuzvendra Chahal to take 350 wickets in T20 cricket.

ย

Brief Scores:
RCB: 155 all out in 19.2 overs (Devdutt Padikkal 40, Virat Kohli 28; Arshad Khan 3/22, Rashid Khan 2/19, Jason Holder 2/29)

ย

GT: 158/6 in 15.5 overs (Shubman Gill 43, Jos Buttler 39, Rahul Tewatia 27*; Bhuvneshwar Kumar 3/28, Romario Shepherd 2/30) With this win, GT added two crucial points to move up in the standings, while RCB remained in second place with 12 points despite the defeat.
