SRH eye home advantage, DC seek consistency

Sunrisers Hyderabad will aim to capitalise on home conditions when they face the inconsistent Delhi Capitals in a mid-table clash of the Indian Premier League on Tuesday. Both sides are level on six points, though fourth-placed Sunrisers Hyderabad hold a slight edge, having played one more match and maintaining a better net run rate.

For SRH, the season has been about gradual improvement. In the absence of captain Pat Cummins—who has joined the squad but remains unavailable—the bowling attack initially appeared thin. However, in the past two matches, relatively lesser-known players such as Praful Hinge, Sakib Husain and Shivang Kumar have stepped up, bringing energy and control.

Hinge impressed against Rajasthan Royals, while a collective effort led by Eshan Malinga against Chennai Super Kings showcased SRH’s sharp death bowling, helping them secure consecutive home victories. This bowling resurgence has been key to their recent momentum.

Their batting, however, remains inconsistent. The aggressive approach has not always paid off, with openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, along with stand-in skipper Ishan Kishan, yet to click as a unit. Frequent early wickets have exposed the middle order.

As a result, much of the responsibility has fallen on Heinrich Klaasen, who has often had to rebuild innings before accelerating. While capable of explosive hitting, he has been forced to temper his natural game early on, making his role more demanding.

Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, have struggled for consistency as well. Experienced players like KL Rahul, Pathum Nissanka and Tristan Stubbs have contributed runs, but the team needs more substantial performances, especially on batting-friendly pitches.

Sameer Rizvi, who impressed in the opening games, has dipped in form with a string of low scores. Their bowling unit, though, offers variety. In the absence of Mitchell Starc, South African pacer Lungi Ngidi has led effectively, combining control with wicket-taking ability and claiming seven wickets in five matches. Captain Axar Patel has been economical through the middle overs.

However, left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav is yet to hit top form, while pacers Mukesh Kumar and T Natarajan have shown promise in phases.
The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm.
