CSK beat Delhi Capitals to register first win of IPL season
Chennai Super Kings finally overcame their miserable 2026 IPL season by defeating the strong Delhi Capitals by 23 runs on Saturday night. Batting first, Chennai posted 212 in their allotted 20 overs, while chasing the target, the entire Delhi Capitals team was bundled out for 189.
ย
For Chennai, Sanju Samson scored a blistering 56-ball 115 runs while Ayush Mhatre scored 59 off 36 balls. Jamie Overtonโs superb bowling spell (4/18) helped the team to bundle out Delhi for 189.
ย
For Delhi, South African star Tristan Stubbs (60) delayed the inevitable with a gutsy half-century.
ย
While Chennai scored their first win of the season, Delhi Capitals slumped to their second defeat in a row.
ย
Chasing 213, Delhi made a bold start, making 61 in just five overs through a fine stand between openers KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka (41). But once Nissanka was dismissed, the downfall of the innings started. Pulling back the strings, Chennai pacers Overton, Khaleel, and Kamboj began to bash the ball into the red-soil surface and extracted good bounce, cramping the DC batters for space to execute their shots effectively.
ย
Both Sameer Rizvi and Axar Patel fell to short balls. However, despite the back-to-back scalps, Delhi still had two of the best white-ball players in David Miller and Tristan Stubbs, who tried to fight back but ultimately fell amid rising pressure.
ย
After being asked to bat first, Samson brought up his first substantial knock in a yellow jersey and was involved in an excellent stand with Mhatre, who underlined his massive potential in bold letters, for the second wicket โ 113 runs in a little over 11 overs.
ย
Brief Scores:
Chennai Super Kings: 212 for 2 in 20 overs (Sanju Samson 115 not out, Ayush Mhatre 59; Axar Patel 1/39).
Delhi Capitals: 189 all out in 20 overs (Pathum Nissanka 41, Tristan Stubbs 60; Jamie Overton 4/18).
