India finished with five medals, including a gold, at the World Boxing Futures Cup as Chandrika Pujari produced a commanding performance to clinch the top podium spot in the women’s 51kg category here on Sunday.

Competing in the Youth Olympic weight divisions, the Indian under-19 men’s and women’s teams delivered a series of strong performances, returning with one gold, three silver and one bronze medal from the tournament held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Chandrika led the Indian campaign with an impressive victory over Mardonova Nazokat of Uzbekistan in the women’s 51kg final, securing a unanimous decision after dominating the bout with sharp combinations and controlled ring movement.

The victory marked a significant milestone for the young Indian boxer, signalling the growing strength of India’s youth boxing programme.

India also secured three silver medals, with promising boxers reaching the finals in their respective categories before finishing runners-up.

Gunjan settled for silver in the 48kg category after losing her final bout to an opponent from England by a 5–0 decision.

In the 54kg division, Joyshree Devi delivered a determined performance but went down 4–1 to a boxer from the United States in the title clash.

India’s third silver came in the men’s 50kg category, where L. Ambekar Meetei fought strongly but lost the final to an opponent from Ukraine.

Earlier in the competition, Radhamani Longjam secured a bronze medal in the women’s 57kg division, completing India’s medal tally at the event.

The World Boxing Futures Cup serves as an important platform for emerging boxers, offering young athletes international exposure and competitive experience against top youth talent from around the world.

India has steadily strengthened its presence in international boxing in recent years, particularly at the youth and junior levels. Indian boxers have consistently delivered strong performances in global events, including the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships.

At the 2023 Women’s World Boxing Championships, India finished with four gold medals, underlining the country’s growing stature in the sport.
