Gill set to named BCCI Cricketer of the Year
Indian cricket teamโs Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill is all set to receive the Cricketer of the Year award at the BCCI’s annual Naman Awards, where former India captain and coach Rahul Dravid will get the Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award while Mumbai’s Ayush Mhatre will be rewarded for his performances with the Lala Amarnath Award for the best all-rounder in domestic limited-overs cricket.
ย
The BCCI is also reportedly considering a lifetime achievement award for legendary Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), on the other hand, is set to be named the best association in domestic cricket.

The 26-year-old Gill, who was not picked in the T20 side that defended the World Cup crown last month, enjoyed a stellar run in the other two formats. He amassed 983 runs in Tests, including a whopping 754 in the drawn away series against England in 2025, at average of over 70.
ย
His ODI runs tally stood at 490, including 188 runs during India’s title-winning Champions Trophy campaign. Overall, Gill accumulated 1,764 runs across formats at an average of 49, dotted with seven centuries and three fifties. Although his T20 International form was not particularly impressive, he was in tremendous form during the IPL, scoring 650 runs for Gujarat Titans at an average of 50.

Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had declared a massive cash reward of Rs 131 crore for the Indian cricket team after their victorious run in the T20 World Cup 2026. The Men in Blue, who defended their T20 World Cup title at home, becoming the first team to do so, received Rs 125 crore in 2024 following their victory in the prestigious tournament.
ย
By successfully defending the title, India became the first team in the history of the tournament to retain the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. With this victory, India also became the first team to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup thrice and also the first team to win it at home.
ย
Led by Suryakumar Yadav, Indian also received a substantial financial reward from the International Cricket Council (ICC) after their title triumph. After registering a commanding 96-run victory over New Zealand in the final, India claimed the winner’s purse of USD 2.34 million (approximately Rs 21.5 crore) awarded by the International Cricket Council. The runners-up, New Zealand, received USD 1.17 million (around Rs 10.75 crore).
ย
The hosts dominated the title clash from the very beginning, piling up a record total of 253 for five in a World T20 final. The innings was powered by a blistering 89 from Sanju Samson, which set the tone for India’s commanding performance.
ย
India’s bowlers then sealed the triumph in emphatic fashion, with Jasprit Bumrah producing a sensational spell of four wickets for 14 runs, his best figures in the format.
