Chipalkatti Junior Grand Prix: Little-known challengers shine
It was a day of stunning upsets on the second day of the Late Sushant Chipalkatti Yonex Sunrise India Junior International Grand Prix Badminton Tournament here on Thursday.

Leading the charge was unseeded Haasana Sree Mallavarapu, who pulled off the biggest shock of the day by toppling top seed Ishita Negi 22-20, 21-18 to storm into the girlsโ singles second round. In other notable results, Dianka Waldia ousted eighth seed Tanvi Reddy Andluri 21-15, 21-19, while Rishika Nandi edged past 13th seed Tanvi Patri 21-14, 14-21, 21-8 in a tense three-game battle.

The boysโ singles also witnessed a flurry of surprises with as many as six seeded players crashing out. Jagsher Singh Khangurra scored the dayโs most emphatic win, upsetting third seed Riyan Malhan of the UAE 21-18, 21-19. Japanโs Yuzuno Watanabe added to the drama, eliminating fifth seed Xiao Ting Su (Chinese Taipei) 21-18, 21-12.

In another hard-fought thriller, Dev Ruparelia outlasted 13th seed Toshiki Nishio (Japan) 23-25, 21-19, 21-9. The list of giant-killers also included Mithes Rameshwaran, Tankara Gnana Talasila and Anish Thoppani, who all booked their spots in the next round.
