Iga Swiatek made it to the Wimbledon semifinals for the first time with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over 19th-seeded Liudmila Samsonova. She will face unseeded Belinda Bencic for a place in the final.

Bencic defeated No. 7 Mirra Andreeva 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2) to reach her first Grand Slam semifinal since the US Open in 2019. The other womenโ€™s semifinal match will take place between No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and No. 13 Amanda Anisimova.

โ€œEven though Iโ€™m in the middle of the tournament, I already got goosebumps after this win. Iโ€™m super happy and super proud of myself,โ€ Swiatek said after the win.

A five-time major champion, Swiatek has clinched four of these titles at the French Open, while the fifth one came at the US Open. She has also reached the semifinal at the Australian Open twice. The grass courts at Wimbledon have not been a happy hunting ground for Swiatek. In her five appearances in the Wimbledon womenโ€™s singles in previous years, her best performance was when she reached the quarterfinals in 2023. A semifinal loss to Sabalenka at Roland-Garros last month had ended her 26-match French Open winning streak.

ย

Bencic, who at 28 is 10 years older than Andreeva, is taking part in her second major tournament since returning to the tour after her delivery in April 2024. โ€œI’m very proud, actually. All my career, I didnโ€™t say it a lot to myself, but after having Bella, I really say it to myself every day,โ€ Bencic said.
