Pant climbs to 6th in ICC Test rankings

Indiaโ€™s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has climbed to the sixth position in the ICC Test Rankings released on Wednesday. Only the second wicketkeeper in Test history to score centuries in both the innings of a Test match, Pant has moved up one spot to achieve a new career-best rating of 801. He is now just 88 points behind the top-ranked batsman, Joe Root of England. Pant had reached a career-high fifth spot during the same period in 2022.

Having retained his fourth position, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal continues to be the highest-ranked Indian. Captain Shubman Gill, on the other hand, has slipped one spot to the 21st rank.

Having scored 28 and 53 not out in the Headingley Test, Root has maintained his slender lead with teammate Harry Brook just 15 rating points behind him at No. 2. England opener Ben Duckett has climbed up to the eighth place after his match-winning 149 in the second innings of the Leeds Test. This is Duckettโ€™s career-best rating.

In the bowling department, Indiaโ€™s ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah continues to lead the chart with 907 rating points. He has consolidated his No. 1 position after a five-wicket haul against England in the first Test of the ongoing series. South Africaโ€™s Kagiso Rabada is at the second spot, followed by Australia captain Pat Cummins and England speedster Josh Hazlewood. Indiaโ€™s Ravindra Jadeja, on the other hand, retained his position as the No. 1 Test all-rounder.
